BB's rock
« on: May 03, 2003, 01:41:34 PM »
Quick update on the subject of BB's for tire balancing. I just didi my suspension allowing me to run my 35" Boggers. From the time I leave for work in the morning till I get home at night, not shaking, thumping, or death wobble. I am running 8 oz. of BB's per wheel and it works. I feel a lot better about mounting and balancing them myself for the cost of a box of BB's than for $80 at FWPW.

Using BB's to balance your tires... Very cool. I had heard about using golf balls but didn't think about BB's. Gotta try that one.

84toy - Balancing tires with large lugs are expensive and often the tire place won't do it. I've heard tire places saying the balancing can ruin a machine..plus it just won't get it balanced. So some guys use golf balls..or in this case..BB's.

BB's being loose in the tire, are spread to the areas that need weight as the tire spins. Unlike clamp on weights, BB's are very forgiving with chunking of the tire. If you take a chunk out with clamp ons, your tire now becomes unbalanced, with BB's, they just move to the areas that are now unbalanced and basically rebalance themselves everytime the tires are brought up to speed. This is a way to balance heavy tires with big lugs like swampers.  Like I said earlier, I measured out 8 oz. for each tire and dumped them in when I mounted them, simple.  :chug: I have to say it does make me laugh everytime I come to a stop sign and hear the BB's falling back into gravity and bouncing off the rim inside.

So how do you figure out how much to put in? Do you go get them spun then add it? This is something new to me

Yeah, having extra isn't a bad thing, it just disperses them even more.

Equal doesnt work in offroad tires is there isnt enough to go around to all the bad spots in the tire thats one reason that bb's kick tail over equal.  Ive ran equal in a set of 38 x 12.5 tsl's and it helped a little bit but it wasnt worth the cash by a long shot :slap:and those crooks at les schwab got me for $25 a bag :thud: So I suppose bb's rule the offroad tire roost!!
cheap and easy to install!!

Sounds like the bbs work. I have heard about the equal and there are so many different opinions. you know the old saying. well i am getting ready to mount up some 35 bogger and will try the bbs to see how it works out. The truck dosnt see much street use but when it does it is going to work and that means freeway.  will post later to give my feedback.

Yeah like I said my 35" Boggers do fine @ 70 on the freeway. I've been telling everyone about BB's, sounds like I'm converting a lot of them  :thumb:
