Revolver Shackles
« on: Jan 29, 2003, 05:37:05 PM »
Do you thinkk it would be worth it to get those revolver shackles for my 83 Toy for around 100 bucks.  The guy  is selling them in the sale section.  I dont know much about them, i mean should i get them and would i have to modify anything, or should i work toward gear sets instead for my diffs :dunno:
Those revolvers look really weird. Are they better than orbit eyes.

They are totally different in concept, design, and function.

The Orbit Eyes allow your spring to unload side flex which prevents the leafs from sticking and preventing full flex from the springs.

While the Revolver-style shackles are like a slinky-shackle, they once full articulation is achieved, the shackles can extend another 4-5" providing even more .

The Revolver-style shackles will help you achieve more flex, but only because it allows one side to drop more (like cheating for more flex) while the Orbit Eyes actually create more flex on there own allowing your springs themselves to flex greater than ever before.

What would be cool is a combo Orbit Eye and Revolver-style shackle, but I wonder if it would be real lose and squirrelly on the road..

We have a discussion on the Revolver Shackles going on over in the Project Research and Build-Ups Section. Check it out here.

Hope this helps!

the revolvers work great i have them on my toy and i have gotten 11 inchs more twist out of my truck we forklifted the truck befor and then after. the only downside to the shakle is that it will raise the rear of the truck about 1inch so take that into consideration..  good luck

I had some and after going out with them a couple times I got rid of them. Going down hill they make it creepy and I don't think they help with flex that much. They never let the springs work. I ramped my truck before and after I took them off and it didn't much. Hit the trail and I feel it worked better with out them. Keep in mind I have 5 inch All Pro springs.

I heard that yes you do flex more but its doesn't help with traction. Flexes enough to reach ground but doesn't effectively give you traction like regular shackles will. I sure wouldn't want to put them on my rig...
