Radiators?
« on: May 17, 2005, 09:19:40 PM »
V6 radiator, would it be good to put one in a 22r?  I have been thinking about it a little.  My temp gauge doesn't work so i don't know if my truck is overheating or not.  Was wondering if putting a V6 radiator would bring down the chance of it overheating?  any drawbacks?  Anything i am missing that won't let it work?

i put a v6 rad. in a 86 toyota with a mild built 22r, ran cool, i have also installed one in a 83 with a buick 231 also ran cool. BTW temp gauges are like $20 not a bad investment for a $1000 motor...

Sweet.  My wireing from my temp is fawked too.  I am not the best electrician and don't want to screw something up.  Do the V6 radiators just slip into place or is custom mounting involved?

Geeze man, if I were you I would fix that temp gauge before I drove the truck again. I've had to much bad luck with engines overheating..

As for the 3 core radiator, it's a direct bolt in for all 2nd gen trucks and 1st gen 4Runners because it's the same cab and also the same radiator as a Turbo, minus the Turbo water cooler lines. As for 1st gen trucks, you will need to slightly grind each side of the lower tank ribs in order to clear the frame. I've got a 3 core Turbo radiator in my '81

I have had my truck for a little over 2 years and the temp gauge has never worked.  I has ran good the whole time.  I really don't know how to fix it and don't want to take it to some and have to pay.

:headscratch:    well we should start a "Fix Heyenas temp gauge fund." Summer is coming soon, I would definately take her to a shop asap. Even a larger radiator will allow the engine to overheat if you blow a hose, headgasket, or have a stuck thermostat.

A buddy of mine just lost his motor (84 Toy) coming back from moab last weekend because his temp gage was faulty.  The lower radiator hose failed, drained the system and cooked the engine.  When he realized the problem he fixed the hose and filled the system, a few miles down the road the cab blew off taking the top of the radiator with it, fluid was up on the windshield.

:shocking: what did he do,loosen the cab mounts when he replaced the hose, bet that was a scary ride when the cab blew off.
