My dad is running used cooking oil from the local store, he mixes it about50/50 with diesel and he hasnt noticed any issues so far.  Just half price fillups. ;)

a couple of guys here in town run bio diesel; one of em just bought my buddies 96 2wd 3500 cummins (custom fuel plate, turned up pump, turbo mods) with over 280,000 on it and it runs pretty good...smokes less too.

BTW, he says grease from chinese restaurants runs better than JITB, booger king, etc.

bio-diesel is cool, but it's an un-needed process.

use waste vegetable oil (used in deepfry machines)  heat it up using engine coolant, and a diesel will run off it.

You don't need to mix fuel either...make it a dual fuel system, then as soon as the grease is heated, switch to FULL GREASE MODE...I hear your exhaust smells like fries though.  :headscratch:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Here's a write up I did in another thread. Go about 1/4-1/3 down and I explained a bit on Bio. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=9259.60 (forgot the link   )

I used to have a diesel Golf a couple of years in High School (parents old car). Even without bio I was stoked. The thing got 55 mpgs. The car got totaled 3 times (none of them our fault) and we finally stopped rebuilding it.  :dunno:  Wish I still had it these days.

Any diesel can use bio-diesel, doesn't have to be a VW.

Why spend the time/effort trying to make good (you don't always make good batches) bio, when you can use straight WVO.

Bio-diesel is processed VO.
running straight WVO or VO in an engine is not the same as bio-diesel.

A diesel engine can run off B100 with no mods.
To run off WVO, the oil must be heated, and a second tank is required for startup/shutdown.

yeah, supposedly, you start the truck on diesel, let it run about 15 min and then switch to oil...and the reverse when you shut 'er down...or so i am told.

Yes. First you must wait for the oil to be heated so it will flow through the injectors. Then when shutting down, you must flush the lines so they don't get clogged with gelling oil.
Doesn't take 15min to shutdown.
