There is 2 green plugs that go to the battery. One of those is for the alt and other supplies power to inside of the truck. Check one of those for being loose or grounding out.
I still think the voltage reg is bad. When you turn on the lights its basically asking for more power and the alt is not kicking up the power.
If you put a voltage tester on the battery what voltage is it reading ?
