i have this same problem!!
it's not up or down in the spindle. the axle pushes against the side of the spindle, and it's not letting the hub engage all the way when i get it all together.
one problem with the housing being bent.......the axle pushes backwards toward the rear of the vehicle.......that seems to me that the tire would have to hit something so hard that it would bend the spindle housing forward, but that means the vehicle would have to be in REVERSE. this problem has never happened to me, i guess i could have hit a rock or something going backwards.......
