Just a thought, but another reason to carry might be if those fuzzy cute woodland creatures become the animals that they truly are and decide to attack someone.  Granted a .40 won't do much to a bear but rather have it and try then be caught w/o one.  I don't CCW either, but that doesn't mean i cant have access to one quickly while camping...  Just make sure you carry your hunting license /w you and some extra tags.  when we get to the springs i know whats going on that BBQ after the tri-tip is done.
