Where do you live that you get hassled for that? You got flaps and not super wide.
My tires stick out about a little over half an inch and I have been cited for mud flaps and fender flares twice. At least in the CA vehicle code its a gray area, and they use that to ticket people. I just run mudflaps though, screw fender flares.
