Next time take duct tape roll it up sticky side out and stuff it into the slice until the airs stops leaking.  You can run about 10lbs of air and not have it leak out.  About 4-5yrs ago a buddy of mine sliced two tires going into Eagle Lakes(lower section of Fordyce trail), within about 500ft of each other.  There was only 3 of us, he had 35's, and the other spares were 33's and 37's.  We tried the patch kit and quickly ran out of patches, so we started using duct tape.  He was able to wheel back to camp, and IIRC, the tire was still holding air the next morning.
