even if your talking about slip yoke id do more. when i build my crawler. im going to build it with 5" of slip showing and 7" left in that way if a manage to twist up leafs and scoot the axle forward or break the front bracket off i'll keep from damaging my yoke to much or slipping apart. but its also going to be nice because i'll have a drive line shop to build them at by thetime i need to build them
