by your post Im not sure which driveline you want to build...the 79-84s use a Precision 613 and the 85+ use a 614 for the ball kit.

FWIW, Jesse @ High Angle Driveline has told me he never messes with repairing one, he just gets a late model unit that is still good and clearances it.
