True, it would have to leak out in order for it to mix with air and reach it's stoich ratio before being able to ignite. How is that not possible with this set up if it should leak?

never said that.  im agreeing with you guys.  im going to do it the right way.  i just wanted to make sure my understanding of the flammability of propane was correct... back on topic... lol  After the discussion of the dangers of using propane instead of R12, ive decided to take it to an AC shop to use R12.  Thanks for the info and opinions guys.
