Hi Glen! - welcome to our world!! I had surgery in Nov 2006 following a car accident. Keep in mind that the size of the herniation does not necessarily correspond to the symptoms. People with large herniations may have zero symptoms while some with very small herniation may have terrible problems. There is even such a thing as a zero herniation. Everyone is different in symptoms and their tolerance of the same. Consequently diagnosis time will vary from person to person. If you dont get results from one doctor, head to another! I Feel free to ask any questions. Don't let it frighten you or get you down we are all in this together and God watches over all of us equally!!God Bless!Teri
My wife was hit on her side of a car about seven years ago, and has had problems ever since. About three years ago she started into Chronic severe headaches. That led (about six months ago) to all the symptoms on the attached list. She had decompression surgery (slightly different from the norm for Chiari--the dura was not disturbed) on 1/22. Her story and the best Chiari sites I found are on the attachment. Many persons have their Chiari discovered or symptoms triggered by head trauma. Mike
Dear Glen,I was hit by a drunk driver in July 2006 and diagnosed Chiari I in Nov 2006. I had decompression surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in April 2007. I am much improved but will never be what I was before. My neurosurgeon and attorneys in VA say they’ve seen it from car accidents before.Good luck in your quest for good health.
