Do these pictures help???  A couple shots of a welded 3rd I did.  I have welded about two dozen Toyota 3rd's with a 220V MIG, and never had any break, or experienced any problems with them.  Just make sure to clean the inside up real good, and dry it out....get some hot, penetrating welds on the spider gears, and let it fully cool.  And of course, always use at least a 220V machine.  110V really doesn't have the power to "bite" into the gears.  Just my  :twocents:
