I did not do it for the HP; I did it for deep-water crossings. I run Fordyce Creek Trail (Sierra Trek) regularly and it has four water crossings on it. Depending on how much water they are, letting out of the dam it can get headlight deep. I put it on years ago when I had an IFS lift and 33" tires.
Many people were running the tube to the back of the wheel well and leaving it. I did not like that because of the dust and dirt kicked up by the tire so I took it a few steps further.
