Report reveals details of attack
Nick Martin, Tribune
Tempe police came upon a strange scene that included knives, a pickax and a book titled “The Eighth Circle,” on the eve of Valentine’s Day when they arrested a woman suspected of stabbing her lover to drink his blood.

The new and sometimes bloody details of the attack, which police say took place in a shack behind an empty house, were released Monday in a police report.

In the report, officers wrote that Tiffany Sutton, 23, said Robert McDaniel, 46, had signed a disclaimer statement promising “he wouldn’t prosecute when the sex got crazy.”

Also at the scene, police found a paperback copy of a book called “The Eighth Circle,” whose title refers to one of the lowest circles of hell in the literary classic “The Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri.

On the last page of the paperback, police found a statement in black ink: “You Robert McDaniel swear no wrong will come to me Tiffany Lachelle Sutton due to tonight’s events,” with an illegible scribbling underneath.

Written on the back cover was: “You also pass to me all your earthly powers wealth included.”

McDaniel told police he signed something but didn’t know what it was, according to the report.

McDaniel later decided to press charges.

McDaniel told police he had agreed to “be tied up” for sex, but got scared when Sutton sliced his leg and told him she likes to drink blood, according to the report.

He asked her to untie him, but she refused and “just kept hacking away,” he told police. Eventually, he escaped and ran naked to the empty house while she chased him with a pickax, the report stated. Inside the house, Sutton calmed down and McDaniel passed out.

A friend found him soon afterward and called 911. McDaniel told police the two of them had used methamphetamine and shared a six-pack of beer and a half bottle of whiskey. He was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds and cuts. Sutton was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
