If I had the money I would put the VW 1.9LTDI in my 4Runner
It has 100 hp & 177 lb/ft of torque all stock & a friend is getting around 48 mpg in a Jetta. I know there is a weight difference between the Runner & the VW but a diesel engine likes to work & fuel mpg should be close. I've been checking this out & if you have the money you can get 200+hp. I don't know what the weight of the 1.9L is but I'm sure it's less than the Cummins 4B series. You might be dollars ahead now but in the long run I think the diesel will be worth it cause you will be getting almost if not twice the mpg than a 22R or RE
