the tranny and the rearend on a v6 are beefer as well
The 2.7 4cyl, 3.4 V6, and 4.7 V8 all use the same 8.4" rear end. That is unless the 2.7 or 3.4 is a TRD w/ the e-locker rearend, then its an 8" rear. As far as the motor goes, I'd go w/ a 3.4 if you're gonna go up to 38's, then again gearing is EVERYTHING when you're pushing that big of a tire. The 3.4 isn't THAT much heavier to offset the horsepower and torque gains. The 95.5-97's were the only years that Toyota put out a reg-cab 3.4 V6 Tacoma. They are EXTREMELY rare, and even more rare to see one for sale. Anyone that has one knows what they've got and don't wanna let go of it, unless they're asking an arm and a leg. Good luck on your search, b/c you'll be lookin for a while :D
