Re: what will 38's break

gotrocks has 5.29 gears with 37x14.50 tires and he managed to break a set of Profields (which damaged the splines on the inner axles) and a stock spare, all in two days in Moab.  He upgraded to a set of 30-spline Longs and the pinion (Yukon Gears) broke a couple of days later.

His plan is to get the front ring & pinion cryo heat treaded by Bobby Long and then add some additional studs to the hubs (arp?).

I would spend the coin and just get some of Bobby Longs axles.  The 27-spline might be ok, but saving a little money doesn't seem as smart when fixing broken parts on the trail.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved
