Give it a shot, and lets see. I know one of the bedliner companys has a below par track record, but I forgot which one. I've seen people do their bumpers but never their axles. I cant imagnie how it would be detrimental, but you might wanna do the housing without the third in, and cover the hole. I could see sealing it being an issue if you take the hird out, and then try to put it back in and get some of the herculiner pinched between the third and the housing
