Make sure there are no burrs or dings holding you up. Dress it with a file. You can cut the heads off some extra ring gear bolts and use them as guide bolts. It will make sure your bolt holes are lined up when you finally get your ring gear on.
I have never had to beat a gear on. Heat it up and work it down evenly with the guide bolts and it should go on. Don't get it cocked or it wont go.
