I set up a 4runner with the 4.88s for my wife and we used a detroit locker. It was great. With the stock 4.88s you have a slightly different carrier than the other gear ratios so your locker options become more limited. I think you can still get the detroit though.
That being said we run either welded rears or full spools on everything in the rear now on road or off.
