nothing like asking a question then pretty much calling "MOST OF US" idiots...... not a very good way to get an answer...

i have used an tank from an 85 4runner (efi) in a 84 4runner (carb) by just changing the fuel pump pickup module.... everything worked fine, but if you look at the numbers online they do list seperate fuel tanks for carb and EFI, not to mention there is a size alteration mid year 86...

im just assuming here, but it sounds like you may have a fuel injected tank with an carb engine, i would first try just disconnecting the fuel pump and see if the stock mechanical pump on the block will pull fuel through...
Those are some huge welds!
