Wondering the same thing why is everyone ditching thier 15 for 17? 15in tires are way cheaper and more sidewall with a 15 would make for a softer ride on the trail??
Here is why 17's are better than 15's. LESS SIDEWALL. Why is less sidewall better you say ? Well when you are aired down on the trail and you turn your tires you will see that your rim will actually start to turn first before the tire. With a smaller rim and a huge tire with lots of sidewall you lose turning ability due to tons of sidewall wash. Yeah the ride might be slightly more cushy but you would never notice it unless you hit a bump so hard that it smashes into the rim. So basically with a larger rim you still keep your ground clearance with bigger tires but dont have the draw backs of a small rim.
