the rustbucket..... getting scrapped for a taco
« on: Aug 14, 2009, 12:18:23 AM »
update     it's done for now and here's a little before and after

then,  ifs  3 inch body lift open diffs pretty much bone stock other than stock dual cases and some crappy 33's

now its   238 to 1  Detroit rear, HP Elocker front with 30 splines and six studded high steer (Nothing from China)  37 inch mtr's, 63 inch chevies and rears up front

and it actually gets put to use

a plasma is easy to use. You have to have an air compressor and usually a 220v outlet but you can get 110s to they just arent as efficient. You just plug them into air and power then clean a goot surface on the frame for a ground and it will cut. I just advise you to double check behind everything you cut because it will cut a lot faster and deeper then a torch will and you can easily cut stuff you won't want to.

naw the metal doesnt have to be just have to have a good ground i mean it cant be like an inch deep in dirt and grease but if its just a little dirty it'll cut fine. Sometimes it is hard to start a cut when its dirty but it will work

Your hanger looks fine, just run the tube as far forward in that mount as you can.

Well its gettin there slowly. ya i shoulda put that hole forward i would be a little happier with the shackle angle but its not too bad. hopefulyy the springs flatten out alittle more and that takes care of it.
heres some pics of the shackle angle and my very first knuckle rebuild, not too bad but i wont lie it involved some cussing. any not too much longer im hopin i can take a little test drive tomorrow.
Im just gonna run the 83 rotors for now  Does any one know if i can use the ifs caliper with the skinny old rotor?  these old calipers look like  :pokinit: im sure i cant the way things are going though just like noone mentions the flange on the solid axle wont match your driveline.
