Topic: 88 4 runner 22re charging problem help?

I have 88 4runner with a electrical problem.I got in it to go to work the other night.And the charge light was on.And none of the gauges,reverse lights or back window would work.So i drove my sububran to work.The next morning i took the alternator off and had it checked.Dead it was putting out nothing.So I got one from a friend that had recently wrecked his truck.So I know it was good.Put it on and now the charge light is off.The head lights work.But nothing else works"gauges and rear window".The tester shows the charging system is not charging?I am lost anyone got any ldeals?Is there anything else I need to check?This is my dd I need to fix it.Thanks

Now when I take it for a test drive it blows the fuse?I know the alternator I took off was bad.Had it checked.Re placed it with a good one.Now it still blows fuses?Any Ideals?Thanks

Dosent have a cover so i dont know which one.But it is the middle one in the bottom row.15 amp

have you looked in the owners manual or the factory service manual? it will be able to tell you which fuse it is.....

dude, you need to check and make sure your ground straps arent broke

My 88 4 runner is doing the same thing listed word for word what yours is doing !!! did you ever figure it out??? I'm stumped and i dont want to take it to a shop , i have cleaned all grounds replaced the Alt and got a new batter, it just pops the fuse as soon as i turn the truck on !!!

ok ok i figured it out after searchin thru google and got some ideas so what it came down to was the plug on top of the trans for the reverse light was shorting out ! so simple fix was to just unplug it and put a new fuse in and BAM it worked! hope this helps someone in the future , over half the post i found about this same problem never had the OP answer his own question to inform others what it was.
