Glen's budget rebuild
« on: Sep 26, 2004, 05:30:02 PM »
  okay boys and girls  should i just throw another 20R in there and have it running or start pulling it apart for the real deal, punch that block to 94mm,  have another 20 head totally ported with monster valves,  send the tranny and tcase to marlin and maybe a set of downey 3" springs front and rear,  oh did i mention the clean 84 front axle i found for $100

i meant the 94mm pistons over the stock,     if i go big valves i think i'll go 48mm intake and 40mm exhaust with a 1 5/8"header :flamer:

ok, if I have the hibreed motor thing right. the main benafit is raised comp. Y/N ? if it is your be better off (I think) going with a 22R head and bigger valves in it. the LC pistons gave me about 10:1 C/R
and thats planty. nice cam and your in! I think a motor like that will out run a hibreed motor on the low end and the top too!   my  :twocents:

How much do you plan on spending? You could probabely convert it to EFI, slap in an entire 22R-E with harness and all sensors and ecu for under $1000 you know, in good runing condition too.
Stock I bet the 22R-E will take your :bling: pumped up 20R for a ride. You could eaisly build a 20R that will tear the doors off a stock 22R-E, but I doubt by much, and the larger displacement of the 22R engine will yield better bottom end torque for rock crawling and also the fuel injection will get better gas mileage..

Then you could do all the fun stuff like the header, air filter, cams, plugs and wires, etc..

just my :twocents:

if i test drove a stock 22R powered rig, and a stock 20R powered rig with the same amount of miles and engine condition, i wouldn't really be able to tell the difference.  the 22R does have a bit more torque, but i think the 20R is even more indestructable.  something about the thrust bearings being superior, and the fact that it was never available with a single row timing chain or plastic guides

So I take it boring to 94mm is as big as one can go in a 22re?  What size over bore is this?  I was planning to do a .040 overbore in mine, just cause I can, but is the 94mm bigger.  I'd figure it out on my own but I don't know what the stock bore is.

Are pistons for .080 over easy to find?  I would love to buy some LC high compressions pistons, but they're just a bit too spendy for me.

Dont buy LC crap THEY SUCK, there pistons are JUNK :_oops: my friend spent like 2500 on crap from lc he had the 94 mm big bore kit the adjustable timeing kit cam bigger valves 30 lb flywheel centerforce clutch and all that other crap they sell and them damn motor dident last but right at 50,000 miles before a piston came appart so he calls up lc they said ohh ya we have been haveing problems with that happening we dont know why they do that, they said they have had lots of people call in and complain about that problem, but wont do anything about it or even tell u this before you buy the kit, they wouldent do crap about replaceing the motor and just said well sorry thats ur problem pretty much so i think they are a bunch of cheating A$$ holes that there products suck and are not worth buying.
Well thats my  :twocents:
sorry if i barged in on ur thread but i just wanted you too know before you buy.

If it was me i would just bore it out too 40 over and have your 20r head shaved down and ur pistions clearenced so the valves dont hit them and run your bigger valves and your cam with the weber and header and you will be amazed, and if your thinking about up gradeing too a 38 check out the 45 mm side draft kit and friend of myne bought a truck the other day that was sittin in a field and it had the sidedraft carbs this thing was only hitting on 3 cylinders and it would still roast the 35's off with 4.10 gears threw 2nd it was amazing, those carbs are way worth buying if you can afford them.
Good luck whatever you decide
adam :beerchug:
