OLD#7 1983 4X4 REBUILD
« on: Jan 13, 2009, 08:25:50 AM »
I guess it's time to start a build thread.... is is my "new" truck, I call it, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=old7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/old7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url], because it is the 7th old Toyota I've owned. I found it sitting in a field a few years ago,<a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=TOYOTAOLD7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/TOYOTAOLD7.jpg" border="0" alt="OLD # 7">[/url], I asked a friend of mine about the truck, he said it was going to scrap. I said I would buy it, he told me I would do him a favor by taking it. :cheese: It took a few months (before we both had time) to get it home, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=DSCF1023.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/DSCF1023.jpg" border="0" alt="TOYOTA">[/url], then I tore it down to start cleaning, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=DSCF1057.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/DSCF1057.jpg" border="0" alt="TOYOTA">[/url], Then I had to repair the frame, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url],<a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0005.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url], The next step was to start on the bed, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0007.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0007.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url],when it's finished it will look like a "military style" flatbed. Then the headache rack, with Hi-lft jack mounts, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0013.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0013.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url], and then some rock sliders, <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0012.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0012.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url], <a href="http://s724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/?action=view&current=RECO0017.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/GMACK192/RECO0017.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url]. That's where I am now. I still have alot to do, but that's what' fun about these old trucks.

Looks like you're trying to post the HTML code.  Try copying the IMG tag off photobucket instead.

Finished the bed: , , . I think it turned out pretty good. The bed came off a golf course tractor. Hey it was FREE  The fenders are from STURDYBILT, trailer fenders.

here's a pic of the taillights   they were 24volt military lights   I converted them to  12 volt and rewired them. , ,   I wanted something different than round or oval lights.  I think these are pretty cool  :cheese:

here's some more pics    I got the bed finished, the cab and fenders painted. , , . Then Sunday, I decided to start on the engine, I was going to clean everthing up and replace the gaskets and seals, well then I decided to replace the head gasket while I had the engine out :smack: it went down hill from there. first I noticed a lot of slop in the timing chain ( no big deal ) then when I pulled the head off I notice hone marks in the cylinder I thought it looked pretty good until I cleaned the cylinders. the #1 cylinder has 2 gouges that run the whole length soooooooooooo now it has to be bored out. I figure if I have to go through all the work to have it bored I might as well go all the way :cheese: I'm thinking 60 to 80 over   any opinions????

I dropped the block, head and crank off at the machine shop last night, its a 1 man shop and he stays busy, so I don't know how long it will be there. but he come highly recommended and is REAL good with race motors

thanks, it came off of a golf course tractor   (something different)    got seats for it Saturday, (forgot camera) the seats came out of a Ranger, got the seat belts and rubber floor mat too. I had to cut a tab off of the seat belt mount and drill a small hole above the original hole in the cab. other than that the seatbelts mounted in the factory holes. on the seats I had to cut the front mounting holes off and drill new ones, on the rear mounts I cut them in half and reversed them then welded them back on ( adjusted height) and drilled new holes to mount to the floor. I will put up some pics tomorrow.

, drivers seat , passengers seat , , seatbelt

I have to say FORD seats (ranger) are WAAAAAAYYYYYY more comfortable than the old Toyota bench seat.
