Official MCR7 Saturday Event Suggestions Thread
« on: May 20, 2008, 12:58:55 PM »
For the first time in Round Up event history, we will be organizing Saturday Events!! :woohoo:

Events will be officially scored and managed and will require a $1 entry fee with ALL proceeds being donated to The Rubicon Trail Foundation. Official Wooden Plaques will be awarded to the winners of these events and names will be mentioned by Marlin before the raffle begins! :woohoo:

So far, here is what we've got:

1. Turtle Crawl Competition.
2. R/C Rock Crawl Competition.
3. Horse shoe throw Tournament.
4. Spare Tire Bowling
5. Multiple Kids Games with prizes (probably won't charge an entry fee here, TBA)

I need to organize some more events! Please make some suggestions here and I will reply back! Please remember that we will be in a Private Campground with a protected meadow, so events that involve "racing your truck" will more than likely be rejected.

Important: Please take note that Saturday Events will encourage people to get to the springs Friday night rather than forming a traffic jam zoo on the trail on Saturday!

I look forward to your suggestions!! Let's hear them!

Helicopter Rides........................want me to call?

HECK YES! GET THE HOOK UP! Seriously, yes, let's get the Heli rides again, I need to go up this time :)

So what is a turtle crawl?  Do I have to bring my own pet turtle?  :dunno:

yeah im still confused too.

I will setup a course in which you will drive from start to finish while being timed. The vehicle who can complete the course in the longest time possible without using brakes, clutch, or neutral will win. Hint: Those with dual Ultimate cases or even Dual Ultimate Overkill cases will certainly be the ones to watch. The lower the Crawl Ratio, the slower you can idle through the course and rack up the most amount of time. You can turn your idle down also if you wish (if that applies to you), but you are not allowed to use your brakes, or slip the clutch, or play with your gears. Choose 1 gear and run the course. Automatics and Manuals are welcomed.

You can run the course as many times as you wish if you think you can get a slower time. :turtle: And in case you are wondering, no, you will not be competing against Marlin or me

So if you think you've got one of the lowest Crawl Ratios of our customers, then you'll want to run this one!

pretty much, but you don't even really need a hill, you can just roll it.  I've done "spare" bowling before, thats fun!  we just set some logs on end in a pin position, and rolled our spares toward them.

Spare Tire Bowling - Sounds Great!

We just need to make sure this can be done in a safe manner. I would hate to see a 39" tire run over someone :ack: I'm sure our event insurance won't cover that one

You just need to keep an area clear for spectators, and have "catchers" for the tires.  People ready to catch the tire, paying attention, and only bowl one at a time

Either that, or rig up some construction fencing or cargo netting between trees or posts, and just let the tires roll into it.

Ok guys,

We now have a series of Kids games with kiddy prizes we have planned.

Also we are thinking about a "Blind Rock Crawl Competition" where the driver puts on a blindfold and their copilot, who must remain in the passenger seat, will instruct the driver what to do. The idea is to have a fairly technical and tight course with cones. Time will NOT be kept, however there will be a time-out limit. We will have an official scoring system setup where a judge will count how many times cones are hit, how many backups are made, etc, just like in a professional style event.

But we ran into one problem: Where would we do this? It needs to be kept as close to main camp as possible (to ensure proper participation) and we cannot block the trail at any time. I know of a couple by passes I can think of, but I am not sure about this.

Basically, we want to either minimize or completely eliminate events involving trucks due to the nature of being on private land near a camp ground and keeping dust down, and such....

So the Turtle Crawl event I feel is OK because throttle jockeys need not apply, and this Blind Rock Crawl Competition -- since it is not a timed event -- will also *hopefully* limit very much the amount of heavy throttle foot action.

Of course we will need to figure out what we will do in the case of a tie.

BigMike

Main base camp will be at the Springs Camp ground proper. I realize we could spread the events out, it's just that the farther away from base camp we go, the harder it will be to organize and properly populate each event.

As for the Turtle Crawl Competition, I really want to have up and down hill parts of the course which will stall out rigs whose idles are set extremely low and also test engine compression braking as well.

That is the idea!

Last year many people missed dinner and even missed the raffle simply because there are so many people on the trail all trying to get in on Saturday. Why not encourage more people to come in Friday to lessen the traffic on Saturday?

Poll added.

We were talking today about how we will run the events.

We could have set schedules where people will register for each event and will show up during the event to participate. Like say the Turtle Crawl event is from 12-3pm and the Tire Bowling is from 3-5pm, etcetera.

Or we could just have 5-10 events running the whole day and you just waltz up and enter into the event.

Of course it is much more convenient to have the events running throughout the afternoon, but it will require people to manage each event.

So if we only have a small team for these events, then we will be forced to schedule them out. But if we can find volunteers, then we could have the events going for most of the day!
