Hopefully I can get some on before I go to PVD Nov 13th

It never had a front bumber, and the rear was a $That\'s Gay$ chrome double tube smitty built. If I remember correctly, removing it was like the 3rd modification I did

That's as far as I could go. 2WD and soft dirt don't mix. The other side of that hill is a canal, and there's really no shoulder, it just peaks and then dumps down into the water, so I didnt want to ram it, especially in 2WD with out a Crawler or some kind of "control over the vehicle"

As I was taking pics people were driving by and they probabely were thinking "what a silly guy, he's taking a picture of that? My suburban with 80" tires and 50 shocks can do better than that" and I thought it was funny because they don't realize that I've wheeled Suprise Canyon at Panamint, almost all the trails at Moab, Rubi, the Hammers, Dusy, etc.. and here I am with out a front driveline and only 33s and no Crawler or lockers playing around on some small hill. It was a strange feeling

I have been reading this post with facination.

I was considering a 5m/7m swap until someone sent me to your write up.

I have a 90 4 Runner with a 3" body lift, 31 BFGs, Detroit, 5.29s and with my bumpers, sliders, and rack I weigh in at about 4900lbs. It's my daily driver and is otherwise stock. My rebuilt 22RE with 20K blew and my machinist won't honour it so instead of dropping my coin into another underpowered 4 cyl I am wanting a swap.

My question... What problem am I going to have with my stock IFS and clearance issues??

Any other gems of advice before I go seaching for an engine. This will be my winter project as I need this truck back on the road.

Regarding the IFS setup, our member ifssucks can help you out as he is doing this 3RZ swap on his '86 pickup and is mounting his engine right now. He is having issues with the steering linkages as the 3RZ is a bit taller than the R-family engines. You might need a slight body lift and raise your drivetrain up an inch or so, Im not sure what he is having to do.. Hey Ifssucks!

Well basically any 3RZ will work. The first generations, from 95-97 I believe, were all distributor powered with an integrated coil pack inside the dissy cap, and the second generations, from 98-2002?, were all DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) with twin coils, and now they are individual coils above each spark plug with no spark plug wires at all. Im not sure if the newest version is using the Toyota VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system or not, but I wouldn't doubt it..

The 3RZ is found in 2WD T100s ('95-'97), 4WD Tacomas and 4Runners (both '96+). In the Tacos/4Runners, the frame is bigger and longer than ours, so Toyota gave the 3RZ a front sump oil pan. Also they use a rack'n'pinion steering which goes behind the engine, so they need room for that as well. But on the T100s however, since they are 2WD, space is not a concern as with the 4WD Tacos so the oil pan is a standard rear sump design, and this is what we need.

And since all T100s were built only during the first generation 3RZ, its a win-win situation as the first gen. 3RZ is the best choice for modifications and power mods, so I am told. The newer engines have to much computer control and they do not like modifications as the eailer 3RZs do.

So for sure we need a rear sump oil pan since we are all 4WD, and that is only found in a 2WD T100 from 1995 to 1997. toyhatsu has posted the Toyota part numbers for the T100 oil pan and pick up tube parts, back on page 8, that are needed to convert a front sump 3RZ to a rear sump 3RZ by converting it to T100 components. So if you get a 3RZ from a Taco or 4Runner, its an easy conversion to get the rear sump.

So with that said, the only real concern is that the engine is taller, and with your IFS situation, I want to see how ifssucks is doing, and also he has gotten a new digital camera, so hopefully we can see some updates from his project

Saturday,

After a late lunch I headed into the shop to get her ready for the referee. When I installed the electric cooling fan I wasnt sure if I was going to keep it, so I used crimps on the wires, but since Im using the fan now, I cut out the crimps and now sodered and heat shrinked the wires there and cleaned em up...

I inspected all of my fuel lines, they were a-ok...

Inspected my positive main lead wire running from the batt. to the starter and found that it was rubbing on a brake line, so I made a mount and got it away from everything...

I cleaned up some engine bay wiring above the passenger side fender well...

I put the front fender side orange marker lenses on the fenders even though I dont have the backing piece to them, so there's no light or wires, just the lense on. At least it looks like its there now...

My e-brake was a bit loose so I tightened that up...

Cut out a 6" piece of 2.25" exhaust piping and gave it a 45° slant to it with a hacksaw and welded it onto the back of the flowmaster so the ref guy can have a place to put the sniffer tool... It's a bit quieter now which is nice too

I replaced both license plate light bulbs so now Ive got lumination for my plate at night...

I took care of the wires I left out in the cab for a kill switch...

Also, I attempted to move the T100 fuse box up higher so its out of sight, but its actually as high up as it can go. The hood latch cable is right in the way, and the box is to thick to go underneath it, so I would have to change the orientation of the box if I wanted to move it, and I already taped up all of the wires and looms under there so I dont want to touch it, so I just left it...

My horn has never worked so I tried a different horn and it still doesnt work. I didnt have a multimeter at the time, plus I was the only one at the shop so I couldnt activate the horn buttons while being at the horn wires at the same time to read the gauge for voltage, so I just figured I would fix that later as its not needed right now...

...and I think that's about it. So alot of small things that kept me busy today, but of course this is all simple work so it wasnt so bad.

This week I will be starting on a wide rear axle that I am buying from Marlin. Rocky will help me set up 4.88s in a Taco electric locker diff I've got, so by next weekend I hope to have a new rear axle with proper gearing for these tires and a locker

so all I will need for the snow after that is a Crawler, and I've already got those parts set aside, I just need to find some time to get it assembled and installed!

Those GMC wheels do look great- but the offset looks just like the offset on my cheapo black rockcrawlers. The only backspacing I could find for a prefabbed 17" wheel was 4.5". What I need is 2.5-3.0" with a beadlock.... Heres mine this weekend in Farmingtion

Sunday,

I worked at the shop in the morning and then helped TURBO rebuild his front end. Then we both headed over to a local wrecking yard that was having a half off sale, and it's actually a yard that is on the outskirts of town, so I've not been there in over 5 years. So I was suprised to find FOUR 2WD '79-83 trucks and ONE 82 4WD pickup!

Man I was soooo happy. Our closer yard never ever has any Toy trucks, and when ever they do they are always stripped. Plus, I am a MR2 man and you can imagine how difficult and rare it is to find parts for my MR2..

So I got some nice blue carpeting and its in near mint condition (my carpet is ok but its got alot of grease stains that I wish were not there, so Im gonna replace it when I cut the holes for the tripple cases)...

I found three wood-grain dash panels, yes count 'em, THREE!! but to my dismay, all of the center climate/radio pieces were all cut up and destroyed, but I did snag a cherry drivers side wood grain piece and a cherry pass. side air vent, as both of mine were faded and the vents are stiff to operate...

I found two rear side red marker light "backing pieces" the part that is black plastic and hold the bulb and wires, and I need these for my front fender orange marker lights as mine crumbled when I took the fenders off to paint the engine bay, and a good source told me that the side marker lights are interchangeable from front to rear, so now I can hook up my side marker lights...

I found some really good condition brake and clutch master cylinder resivor caps as both of mine are old and are leakers...

I found a cig lighter as mine was broken, no I dont

but now I can power my cell phone while driving

I found a cherry radiator overflow resiv. and the washer resiv. as mine is cracked near the top and just looks really dirty. These look like the previous owner replaced them from the dealer, they are very very clean...

I found a nice instrument cluster "bezel" as it is called in my MR2, it's the piece that trims or borders the inst. clust. I went through three of those in my MR2 because I kept tightening the little screws in to tight and I cracked the plastic. My current one is ok, but now I've got a good clean spare...

I found a factory rubber cover for my clutch pedal as mine was missing...

I got some horn contact buttons because something is wrong with my horn, and just in case its the contacts inside the steering wheel, now ive got some replacements...

And, for the kicker, I not only found a spare York air compressor for Marlin for his truck incase his goes bad, but I found this jewl:
