idle help...
« on: Oct 15, 2007, 08:11:10 PM »
i have a 85 with a 22r, im running a weber which i just rebuilt a few months ago.  the issue is sometimes when im driving i will push in the clutch to come to a stop and the truck will bog down and die. its also does this in the mornings upon start up.  but its cold upon first start up and that isnt really an issue.  i just dont know why it would be doing this when the truck is warm.  most of the time it idles fine with the carb turned up, but it still seems to want to die.  any help would be apprieciated. thanks.

im having the same problems with the weber. ive taken it to two different carb shops and they both have told me that the stock carb is better. so now im putting all the old smog stuff back on. not fun.

sounds like your running rich. i don't know too much about webers though.  Possible that the rebuild wasn't good, because you say it changes...possibly a leaking gasket/diaphragm?

I'll get a guy in here for ya.

85  what size  jets did you use??   it sounds like either a air jet is plugged  or  your mixture screw is  way off

no-idea,  that doesnt surprise me, since  "most shops"  dont have a clue  about how to  work on a weber

again  i need  to know what size jets you have,   pull the top  off the weber  and  see what the number is  on the jets in the fuel bowl and the ones  on the   other side  aka air jets

i believe so. there is one on each side. one big screw, and one a little smaller.

ok apparently im an idiot. the thing that attaches to the float is not a jet. there are 4 other jet looking screw deals. 2 in the bowl and 2 above the bowl.  the 2 in the bowl say 140 and 1 of the upper ones says 160 and the other says 170.

:suprised:  should have two  brass jets  in the bottom of the  bowl  over on one side

ok  and  your motor is basically stock??

ok  have you checked the mixture screw,  its  the screw on thebase of the carb,  with a spring under it,  run it in till it stops  but as you do count the  complete revolutions  of the screw ,  then back it out 1 full turn

use the  slow idle cam,  its the one  that  you should idle with  when the engine is warm,  adjust the screw till it touches the cam, then  1/2 turn

fire it up   and adjust THAT screw  till  it  idles  decent,  then  to smooth it out  back the mixture screw out  till it  idles better then  back the  slow speed cam screw out  to  slow the idle, do this over and over till it idles  aroun 850-900 rpm

is the slow idle cam screw the one that attaches to the throttle linkage? and also has a spring under it?
