86 rear leaf spring to front
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:37:39 AM »
I heard that by taking 86+ rear leaf springs and putting them on the front of my 85 it will push the axle about 3 inches forward. I'm just wondering if this is true and how much lift it adds along with other modifications needed.

Read all of this: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265669

It will push your axle 2" forward
You will need:
2 Rear Spring Packs
Longer shackles 5-5.5"
Long travel driveshaft (bought or square)
New shock hoops
New shocks
High-steer crossover steering
IFS Steering box
Extend steering shaft
Extended Brake lines

You will also have to add leafs depending on the ride and lift that you want.
The rear springs are longer than the fronts
Does the longer shackle allow for the longer spring to fit or do you need to move the shackle hanger too?

You will need a longer shackle than stock to fit the rears.

If you want your axle even futher forward then you can move the front hanger as well. But the rear springs them selves along with a 5.5" shackle actually net you a pretty good shackle angle.

It will push your axle 2inches forward, I would put a spring hanger on as well, then if you desired you could push it even more forward. With out a spring hanger, depending on how you build your spring pack your pinion angle could be quite bad...  :attention:  The spring hanger helps angle the pinion upwards more.  You will want longer shackles as well along with what was already mentioned above...  8)

any will work but the 86+ are longer springs and therefore will flex better!

so how much lift will the rear springs and the 5.5" shackles give you?

it just depends on how you pack the springs.... the more springs you add the more lift you will have...
