Arkansas Run to Gilmer, TX
« on: Feb 09, 2007, 09:15:40 PM »
Hey Arkie folks (and surrounding states),

My friend Lance and I are trying to organize a wheeling weekend down at Barnwell Mtn. in Gilmer, TX the last weekend in March.

Here's what he posted over on TTORA (http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59143):

"
Hey guys, I am interested in getting a trip together to Gilmer at the end of March. I wanted to post up the plan on the board, and see if we can't generate more interest. The tentative plan is to head down on March 30, and make a weekend of it. Hopefully, we could get down and stake out a campsite, and have everything set up before dark. And hopefully, get some night wheelin' in before time to get off the trails. You don't have to be a part of the Arkansas chapter to attend, everyone is welcome. I just thought it would be a good chance to get some of the Arkansas guys out and get to know each other, and maybe meet some other folks from around the area. Mark your calendars, and let me know if you are interested. Happy wheelin'!

Later,
Lance
"

Hope lots of Arkansas, Texas, and Louisana people can come  :)

post it in the texas board and you will get more responses.  I and i'm sure many of the texas people dont check the national board unless they sit at work all day surfing the boards ahem *travisheals* *nathan* cough cough.  you probably wont get much response however, due to the LSLC roundup at Katemcy the week before and the central group  is making a run out to longs ranch two weeks before that.

This weekend is the trip. If you're going, try to meet us down at Old Camp sometime Friday afternoon/evening. We'll have AR-TTORA stickers on our rigs.

Yes, we had an awesome trip. We got home late last night, and had to go to work this morning, so the pics will probably be up sometime tomorrow. I usually take ~50 or so, but since I got to drive this time, I kinda forgot about the camera.

I hear you and Glen had fun in Hot Springs. We stopped by and saw him (and his bumper modification) on the way home.

That ended my day. I ran out of gas on that hill and when the pickup wouldnt get any fuel I decied not to winch and just back down. I backed down with a dead motor, and right into a tree. Thats when glen came up to save me. We hooked up a strap and proceded to pull my tire hard into the tree trying to get it to slip around, and in the process bent the main leaf on my chevy pack, and Glens bumper.
With the moror in gear and low low first I used the starter to pull up the hill then turned and backed back down finaly around the tree into the exo cage hard. After getting somewhat level some starting fluid and the lil red truck fired up and drove back to the tow rig. When we got there we noticed the clanking I thought were the clevises on my bumper was actually one of my wheels becouse the lugnuts worked there way loose. :yikes:

All in all I had a great weekend. I wish I had got to meet David as I had planned but I still had fun dragging my fellow club membes  (read jeeps) up the mountains.

Left to Right -> Lance (green 02 Xcab Taco), me (79 beater), Jay (silver 04 Xcab Taco), and Brent (filthy Xterra guy along for the ride).

Lance, Brent, and I all work together. Jay is a good friend of Lance.

Jay and Brent are trying to get into offroading, so we brought them along to show them what Toyotas can do.

:ha_ha: Well, we had an awesome steak and potato dinner the night before, and a full course breakfast at a cafe in Gilmer. I think we were all a little stuffed at that point.
