4x4 transmission can another transmission work

Will a transfer-case hook up to a 2x4 w-56. What i want to know is a 4x4 w-56 transmission the same as a 2x4 w-56 transmission.

i think you have to change the output shaft, and obviously the tail housing

according to marlin, yes they will, but the tailshaft needs to be removed and the output shaft doesnt need to be swapped for a 4x4 unit

yes they will, but output shaft needs to be swapped for a 4x4 unit

unless you already own the tranny or just rebuilt it and know its in awesome working condition, then its probably cheaper jsut to find someone's used 4x4 tranny and use that, as its probably going to be difficult to just source an output shaft for a 4x4 tranny

i thought it was, :think: thinking the 2wd output is a little longer than the 4x4

it isnt that the output shaft is longer on the 4x2 (although it is), but that the output shaft on the 4x4 has a female spline to mate up to the male end of the transfercase..... while the output shaft of the 4x2 is male and mounts up to the female slip coupler connected to the driveshaft
