i proceeded to go wow, i have never seen that before, showed all my roomates, then proceeded to do a compression check. by the way the bad plugs were pulled from #2, and #6 the worst plug was #6. i did a compression check and #1-#4 were runnin between 151-152 psi, #5 at 124, and #6 at 0. what are all the possibilites of these numbers, bent valve-broken rod cap. what steps should i take next. and how i should brake the bad news to the patients owner?
your help ismuch appreciated

i would say a valve burnt or broke off, and smacked the crap out of the sparkplug

well i pulled the head last night and quickly figured out the problem, they usually dont run real good with bolts thrown down the carb...

ouch, looks like an expensive little problem he's got there.

What did the top of the piston look like?

the top of the piston looked fine, the bolt never touched it surprisingly. after i told him that that there was a bolt in his valve he told me taht he had to replace the air breather stud because he droped it and couldnt find it, i laughingly told him that i found it

My stud broke off once and went down there, luckily I think it blew right through.

Sorry to see you get screwed, I am no expert but would say that a new valve and the seat redone would fix you up might run you 300 to 400 for the hole head to be gone over. As long as your bottom end didnt get hammered, Good luck

i would look the valve over good,  if its not marked or the seat,  remove the bolt and slap it back together with a cleaning first and a new gasket,  the valve seat and valve should be harder than the bolt

yah a definite good cleaning...those shavings that I am seeing in the pic will toast the bearings. they sure did mine.

i just meant he shouldnt need a valve job if the valve isnt damaged,  but if those are metal shavings   flush the engine out with some kerosene

ive got a buddy that works at a local machine shop around here and im getting the whole head rebuilt for $100 including parts, but ya i was definetely going to flush it out but never thought about kerosine, good idea. all in all its costing about $625 because of one bolt that was dropped down the carb. ouch, good thing its not mine.
