You Might be a Millennial if...
« on: Mar 28, 2018, 08:37:03 PM »
Today at work we had a "Reply to All" email chain that was quite entertaining to me.  It's been a long time since the last episode, but it always amazes me how similar each time is.  Someone sends an email that someone else takes exception to and feels the need to hit "Reply to All" to set them straight.  Keep in mind that the distribution is generally to around 500 people or more.  The next step is someone hitting "Reply to All" to tell everyone else to NOT "Reply to All."  The other common "Reply to All" response is a request to be taken off of the email as if that would ever work.

I had just been telling a new coworker about the heyday of these type of emails and then it happen out of the blue today.  I couldn't resist responding to the first person that replied to everyone to tell us to not reply to all.  I thanked them for the entertainment.  The response was that he did it to "make a point" which I think could only have been that he's a moron.

The email was clearly sent by a millennial (that should know the difference between "Reply" and "Reply to All") and as evidence his email started with "LOL" and ended with "hahaha."

Advice for 300k, never use LOL or hahaha in any email sent in a work setting.  :rofl2:

I was on my phone and fell into a cattle guard knee deep. That's pretty much the most 'these darn young kids!' moment I've ever had in my life.

The full story to that is I was using the flashlight on my phone to unlock the hubs after a trail ride (about 7pm, dark in AZ), and for the life of me could not shut the flashlight off after I was done. I just kept cycling my phone thru audible, vibrate, and mute as they're right next to each other on the UI. That was all happening while I was backing up to get a night picture of red with the rock lights and light bar on. I stepped too far back and ended up down the cattle guard.

I am very thankful to have walked away from that with just scrapes and bruises instead of fractures and lacerations.

Well no, that person would not be a millennial because they're 17 and not 21-34.

Wow, that's quite the trick. I always have to use my fingers...

My fingers were at the shop so at the time I had to make do with what I had :)

Why bother with your "fact check" if you're not going to research it yourself? Millenials are NOT born 2000+, they reach young adulthood in the 2000s+.

dates are estimations, probably +-1 year depending on the researcher, but you get the idea
Baby Boomers 1946-1964
Generation X 1964-1980
Generation Y (millennials) 1980-1995 (that means you, Matt)
Generation Z 1995-____

All you guys wanna do is talk trash about how awful millennials are thinking you're talking about 15-20 year old kids. Too bad you guys are the millennials. To play in to the topic at hand,

YOU MIGHT BE A MILLENNIAL IF...

You try and pawn off the "Millennial" nameplate to the next generation :)

The Millennial mindset is strong with the current generation.  As exhibit A, I submit the liberal protesters.

As 300 posted above being born in 89 I fall into the age range of this category. I do not believe in the foolish ways many of the other people in this category live their lives and the actions they perform. I stand with ancestors who had a little common sense and did not do these ignorant things.

...you were born this side of 1980 and raised without a strong father figure.

Also did you find this all on the internet?

you dont believe everything you read on the internet do you?

Ill never consider myself a millennial, ever. i was a teenager when you were born. my views and raising are miles away from the millennial mindset.

What kind of short bus millennial dog :pokinit: logic are you trying to employ here?

So if you don't use the internet to find information, what ancient document written by the founding father are you reading from? Depending on what source you're looking at, they all vary a few years but most recognize the generation as starting in the early 80s and ending in the mid 90s.

"Millennial" is not a mindset, religion, or political group. It's more or less a generational nick name pertaining to people born ~1980 to ~1995. If you look at the popular votes from previous elections, you can see that the country is relatively 50/50. It's inaccurate to say 'all/most millennials are ultra left liberals' and 'that's why I'm not a millennial'. you ARE a millennial, maybe you don't align with falsehood narrative the millennial generation carries?

i think the issue is the term snowflake and millennial are used in place of each other. Unfortunately i was born in the millennial generation as well, and where i live the vast majority of millennial are super ultra left wing snowflakes.

I actually identify as a baby boomer now...

There's defiantly a lot of variables. My parents are baby boomers, and I was born in the current generation. I wonder what having millennial parents would be like. Crazy to think I'm 17, but if things were different I could be 41 years old!

If you think that half the country's population is right/conservative, they're having kids and raising them with their political views. Same for the left/liberal side. I'm not a fan of media outlets using biased internet polls to claim an entire generation to be 'mostly left' or vice versa.

hey, I didn't use "lol" in a work setting.

Bingo! the "media" and mainstream have turned the "millennial" term far from the original meaning.

The media is hardly making an impact. Pretty much everything the modern media does or covers is superficial and blown out of proportion for ratings and fear mongering. That being said, the people who HAVE screwed up the meaning of millennial are people like you calling younger kids millennials and claiming you're not one. As cporche said, snowflake and millennial are being improperly used hand in hand.
