Need some assistance identifying a transmission
« on: Nov 13, 2015, 05:56:06 PM »
Hey everyone! New to the marlin crawler board, picked up a 1980 Toyota Pickup 4x4 manual. Only big issue with it is the trans wont go into reverse, just grinds. But the trucks price came with a transmission to swap in, only problem....its not the same L43 trans that I believe is hooked up currently to the 20r motor. me and a buddy of mine both believe it to be a G52 5 speed trans as the shifter is on top instead of the side and also thats what it most resembles from a PDF file on rsgear.com I was looking at. im just wondering if it will bolt right up, but I remember reading something about the input shaft needing to be modified or something to mate with the 20R motor. Any help would be awesomely appreciated! Thanks guys! its not the best angle, but ill try to get a better one for you guys here soon

ya i was looking at that earlier on my phone, thanks, it looks to be a G52 or G54, I guess I need to figure out how to tell which bearings I have. I guess either way, they are pretty much identical other than bearings iirc, right?

It will bolt up to your 20R.  But your crossmember won't.  There is about a 4.5" difference between the two.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!
