So... I bought a thief's truck
« on: Sep 30, 2015, 07:43:47 AM »
Part 2
So to recap, i bought a rolled truck off craigslist for the motor (putney stage 2.5 ). A few days after buying it I Google the guys name because it sounded familiar, like maybe i went to school with him or something, and this comes up as the second hit. http://www.actionnewsnow.com/news/chico-chop-shop-shut-down-in-probation-search/

Well poop, I know that I have a stack of receipts over an inch thick including a few from Jim (22reperformance) amounting to 3k for the motor, and that was my main interest.

So after asking some advice from the other thread I thought about it and deleted anything that i was selling from this vehicle (and the topic too!) ... aannd I called the chp, it took a few days but I got to talk with the investigator in charge of the case, he actually came over and looked at the 4runner, and he was familiar  with it. We had a nice chat about scumbags (22 toyotas where stolen around butte county this year :yikes:) and he gave me a g.t.g. with the vehicle.

I was talking with a buddy yesterday that knew the guy from him coming into his shop and i guess he got out of jail and was back at it almost immediately

After talking with the officer all i can say is engrave your stuff! tools, parts, tvs, whatever... they had to give back a bunch of tools (6 dewalt cordless sets!) And a ton of other things, because nobody claimed them.

Well it looks like you got lucky in buying a truck that wasn't stolen, from a guy that is known to steal them.

Yeah, i found out AFTER I bought it (from dude's wife), from my own research.
I never would of bought it knowing where it came from.

I do feel lucky, I've never had to call the police on myself before!
