I would assume that man is fictional, but the point is well provided.  You can only blame others for so long for your own downfall before you have to understand that only you can motivate yourself to change your situation.  It is the exact same mentality as those who want a high minimum wage.  Why take pride in your work and strive for higher achievements when you can just ask to be paid more for your lack of motivation?
