How about a 1uz it's cheaper, then add the low range off road prerunner adapter to a hilux transfercase then a marlin adapter to the 80 transfercase.

Get an adapter kit from toyotav8.com and run an r series with a v6 adapter (or a complete setup from a 22ret) to the usual double case truck set up (center rear output), the land cruiser t case isnt worth arsin about with and this set up would be cheaper still.

yeah that's the guy, it wasn't a link...if you type toyotav8 in the search bar and hit enter it automatically redirects.
His stuff has the balance of ease and cost, i bet if you broke it down you'd end up spending more money and an aeon arsing around trying to measure and make your own.
I also like the transparency of "get a clutch out of...." instead of "you must buy our clutch that is only available from us and is $1100, even though we've just fetched it from Napa".

There was a guy over here making a kit which was £950.00 without a clutch.....

That does look like a nice kit, but this is the family wagon and my wife's daily driver Automatic  is better for her and the project in general.

The LS Swap is very common, I even found a local guy that can program my ecm for me! Thats 200 hundred bucks saved over a howell ecm.  :eyebrow:

I have committed to the 5.3 swap at this point\, thanks for the thoughts though check it out the adpater showed up today!

I also Got the engine trans and T-case pulled, and pressure washed the engine bay.

The FSM says to pull it all at once the engine, trans and t-case. As the oil cooler lines are so tight to the block and trans, along with the wiring harness. That was not a fun pull, next time the get separated!

Got some work done this weekend. Got the broken Exh manifold bolt out of the head and the bad freeze plug.

I also just hung the 5.3 in the 80 to try and clear up the manifold mess.

I must say it is encouraging, to get it in there and just look at what I'm dealing with

There are some small issues, I need to bend the P/S pump fill/return line so it will clear the steering box. Also need to cut down the AA motor mounts, as they are stick out about a 1/2" past the frame rails, while the motor still needs to come down a few more inches

But on the most encouraging note, I think The exhaust manifold question is now answered. The Truck manifolds really are not as bad as I had thought. But seeing how close they are to working makes me feel like the 2010-2015 Camaro manifolds will work. Im finding them on ebay for 160 a set. I hope to order them by the end of the week.

looks good so far!

the 5.3 is a amazing motor really for the cost. i have owned two chevy 1500's with the 5.3 and one had 350K+ miles on the stock motor when i sold it and it still passed california emissions.

i am in the same boat child wise as  you with a 4, 3 and 7 month old, i looked at the fj80's also but the MPG and price of parts was the turn off. I ended up going T100 and figured i would just deal with the car seats in the ex cab.  only time will tell if that will work...lol

cant wait to see how the rest of the build goes!

That exactly why i am doing this swap!

I am only spending a little more than I would have to rebuild the 4.5

I going to make a Lift plate for the front of the head tonight, While watching Monday night football. Seems like a good way to spend a Monday night.

Ordered my Camaro Exhaust manifolds and Muscle car Oil pan a few days ago

Oil Pan showed up in one day from Summit Racing.

It kinda cool In my opinion. Oil pans are usually a hard or expensive part of a swap . But with the support there is For (LS) style swaps GM perfomance parts makes a Muscle car oil pan kit, Its basically a Camaro Pan, windage tray, pickup tube, & dipstick.

And it was only 150 Bucks made by GM.

 :yesnod: Exactly!

But the car manifold is good for high end HP.

The truck manifold is for low end torque.

So as long as the hood clears im running the truck manifold.  :burnout:

Got some good work done this weekend.

I first mated all the adapters together on the back of the trans.

Then I slotted the crossmember bolt holes, & slammed it in place!  :beerchug:

Motor Mounts looking Good

Seems Like there is so much room Underneath!

New pan gives me a lot more clearance mostly as its offset to the right away from the front diff! :bounce2:

Manifolds are still a little close but not the end of the world. I hope :worms:

Then I yanked it out and clearance the fire wall with a BFH on the pass side. Gained about a 1/2 of clearance.

I also fabbed up some scab plates, & burned them in place.

I love my welder, the wire feed is detachable and has 8ft leads. So i can set it up in my garage & set the wire feed by what I am working on.
