4x4 binding
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:20:18 AM »
I recently bought a 1999 4runner with the 3RZ in it....when in 4wd it seems to bind up pretty bad, all the tires match in size.... my question is how can I figure out what gear ratio I have in the rear without pulling it apart.

Is there some kind of chart that can tell me what gear ratio at certain speed and  RPM?  id like to match up front and rear without purchasing a new set of gears

thankyou in advance
P/s it deffinatly feels like a lower gear ratio in the rear

read the tags on the axle

if you are operating it the pavement and trying to turn, it will bind up

it binds up going straight and it also stops its self when I let off the gas...  it drives normal in 4wd  when I remove the rear driveline, so I think that means different gear ratios right? thanks for the response

Jack it up.
Mark tire.
Mark flange.
Count turns.
How many turns of the flange does it take to rotate the tire one full turn?
Done.

Do this for both f/r axles if they don't match then you have different gears in the axles.
