Quick disconect steering wheel.  Or just keep your 75 lb dog inside like I do.  I never lock my doors.  I over insured it to be safe.

I like the idea of welding your shifter and transfer case with U bolts so you can lock together. If they manage to start your truck they can only go reverse 4low.

Dave, I would do the shifter lock setup, and hidden kill switches.  The only other thing is a security alarm, they have some that have interior motion sensors, so if somebody were to reach inside, it would go off.   Outside that, just make sure to insure it for full replacement.  You might have to pay extra, but if it's stolen, they will insure it as a stock 4 Runner.  And remember, most insurance companies won't insure a rig, that wasn't locked.  So, I would have a long sit down with your Insurance agent.

When I insured mine, they laughed at me!  They said the truck isn't worth the coverage you want.

Also, I had to work on my ignition switch a while back, and did you know that a small pin the size of a toothpick is all that holds in your keyed ignitions switch.  Now you know why most thieves use a slide hammer.  Bam, swap out with their own keyed switch, rig gone!

This. The good kits have a locking cap that will stop the thief from replacing the wheel.  Mine has saved me twice that I know of. I dont know about the dog though. Ive read a couple threads where trucks where stolen with dogs inside. Id be way more upset over loosing a dog than a truck

Are Toyotas secure with doors ?

My buddy started mine with his keys today and I would guess he might be able to open my doors as well.

Older Toyota locks are real easy to deal with, a standard key shaved down is all that is needed to open doors and manipulate the ignition. If someone steals a Toyota using a slide hammer they are a novice thief.

I remember the instructions for mine saying to push a paperclip into a certain spot

I've got a hidden kill switch and a hidden igniton switch. My buddy's Ranger has a line lock solenoid behind his seat so he can lock up all the brakes.

i do this along with a few other things:

Quote from: dropzone;51774529
I have been considering one of the Grant Removeable Steering wheel systems for a few years.  TrekkerPaul gave me a Grant steering wheel out of truck he parted out so thought it was a good excuse to order one.
Cheapest place I found was from Jegs. Ordered on Friday, got here today(tuesday) awesome service IMO.   About $50 lower than Auto Zone and $90 cheaper than Grant's List price of $215 :eeek:

Install time is probably 20-30 minutes or so.
Put the Grant Removeable steering wheel security thing in today:

Put the key in, a slight turn to the left and pop off the steering wheel:

Put the Red 'can't drive this one' warning in:

I think this will be a great way to help me keep my truck around...

I did something similar to what Big Mike mentioned...copied from my build thread.
So this is an idea I have had to slow down oxygen thieves for awhile.

Won't stop a determined individual but with a couple of my other anti theft deals it will slow them down..
