Looking for advice on TC input gears
« on: Mar 17, 2015, 06:46:26 PM »
I have a '93 pickup with a W56-e trans.  I was looking into ordering a rebuild kit and was shocked to see the prices (compared to the a-c units).  Someone I know has a W56-b trans/case combo out of an '87 that I can buy.  A different guy has a R151f trans (but no tc) for sale.  Sitting in my garage, I have a R150f/tc from a '91 V6 4Runner.

As I see it, I have 4 choices:

1) buy an expensive rebuild kit for the W56-e

2) buy the used W56-b trans/case

3) Buy the R151f and use the bellhousing off the R151f on my R150f/tc and run it like that.  And have a R151f just sitting on the floor!

4) Buy the R151f and install a 23 spline input shaft into the tc currently attached to the W56-e, and then connect it to the R151f.

Here is my question:  Does anyone know if the 23 spline input shaft from a chain driven tc (I don't know the name of these cases) can be installed into a gear driven Type 6-B EFI 4Cyl tc?  This would save me considerable money on parts.  Not to mention shipping costs as I am in Hawaii.

Thank you in advance.

Dingman.

The turbo transmission would be nice if you could find a case to bolt to it!

I would vote that you get the R-151f and get the 23spline input for whatever rf-1a t-case you can find. That's what I did. I highly doubt that the chain drive input would go into the gear drive case.
