stock 22re cam profile
« on: Jan 26, 2015, 09:28:27 PM »
Is there much difference in the cam profile between a 20R & an 89 22RE as far as lift & duration?

The situation is this: a friend has an 89 IFS with a high mileage 22RE. Cam chain, guides & tensioner were replaced with cheap stuff 2 yrs ago. Chain is noisy again plus it takes a few minutes for the noise to lessen. I will be replacing the oil pump, timing set & lash adj screws with new Japanese OEM parts. And possibly the timing cover depending on the corrosion. He has little money left for a new cam & given the mileage of the engine, would rather replace the cam at engine overhaul.
Will a good condition 20R cam work well in the 22RE engine?
Provided its needed that is.

Thanks.

Did a little searching elsewhere & for stock 20R/22R the specs are about 193*@.050 x 0.393".

There is supposedly a difference between the 22RE and 22R cam.  (I think the 22RE has shorter intake and longer exhaust specs)

The aftermarket stock replacement cam has the same specs for 20R thru 22R and 22RE.
