PSC pump OK alone?
« on: Jan 24, 2015, 09:11:21 AM »
Frustrated with weak stock power steering pump and considering swapping to a PSC "TC" style high flow pump. I know that these are normally used with Hydro upgrades but I am not ready to go there yet. Can I use the "TC" pump alone with stock steering gear and no hydro? I have heard both yes and no. Some say it works great and others claim that it will overheat and blow seals on the steering gear box.  :headscratch:

Thanks

I think it's fine as long as you also use a larger reservoir and cooler. I have tg's kit (1450psi) on my truck and haven't had any issues.

Thanks, yes planning on both accessories. Did the better pump make a real difference?

When my HA ram went out on me at JV I plugged the ports on the steering box and pulled the ram. The steering was awesome, not as good as it was with HA, but a lot better then stock. Even when I had the ARB on it steered fine.

It was already on the truck when I got it.

Thanks for the replies.

The tech guy at PSC agrees, use it alone but with a cooler.  :driving:
