rear axle and locker.
« on: Jan 06, 2015, 05:49:05 PM »
Hi everyone. I have an 84 pickup and am running 529's and a lock rite locker. I run 35" tires as well. I have a rear axle from an 89 4runner I would like to get under my truck. I was considering dropping my differential in it and rolling but lately mine as been making loud bangs when I accelerate.  As well as there is alot of play when you turn the pinion.

If I'm going to rebuild one I'm leaning towards the v6 diff

I really like the idea of a selectable locker.

Do the e lockers from the Tacomas work in a 89 v6 diff?

If not would my lock rite fit in the v6 diff?

What your guys thoughts on this?

Also what locker would you run on a budget. This is a daily driver

Thanks Mitchell :turtle:

That is an excellent write up on how to build a third member thanks. I bookmarked it.

What would you do build the ifs v6 third or rebuild my 84 4 cyl third.

Also the lock rite might be ok in mine.

But I am leaning towards a selectable locker but am on a budget. That's why I was curious about the tocoma e lockers

The 6cly uses larger bearings I might check a junk yard see if you could get a good core on the cheap and build it. I would go with an ARB or factory e-locker.

Also look at http://www.gearinstalls.com/

zuk is the end all on toyota diffs. You might email him and ask what he would do.

I have a complete ifs 6 cyl axle I'm gunna swap for the wider track witdh. It's a good axle.

So if I understand you my lock rite should fit in both ?

And the e lockers from tocos fit as well?

They both are 8" diffs. The e locker will fit into the any toyota 8" housing with Some modification, you will have to grind, drill and tap the ifs housing to fit the e locker.

It will be a score for you if you can find a axle that is already been done for e locker or even better a full float elock housing.
