I didn't know you were planning on running Elockers. The cable actuators are cool but I just cant justify spending that kind of money on them.

Maybe there expensive, but, a: there less hassle than the electric, b: they will last a lot longer, c: you can feel em going in :eyebrow:, d: more levers in the cab makes you look cooler, e: there cheaper for the 9.5" than the eight inch, f: no motor and electrical connections to be susceptible to water ingress, rust and funk, g:have you priced replacement motors?
Just sayin

Dang steve, you covered half the alphabet there. You have a very good point though. For something that does many water crossings I could see them being a better investment than motors. But isn't this your dd andrew?

I think you are over thinking it. The electric motor is a completely sealed unit with it's own breather. Toyota took into account water when developing the unit. If you heat shrink all your connections and load up the plug with dielectric grease I don't see it being an issue at all. Besides if after all that I do blow an electric motor it is at that point I will consider going the cable actuated route. Why would I spend $1k on 2 new motors when I have completely good working ones now? Here is a thread on the subject:

I didnt say buy new motors for a laugh.... i didnt say rip em out and replace with cable actuators......i didnt say the factory ones were crap... i didnt say your wiring was going to fail..
i think you over reacting to my over thinking of why I (as in ME) would go cable route.

Now, get em wired and lets go wheeling

I was never not chill you fiery little brit. Unfortunately text over the internet does not convey tone very well. You gave me your reasons for wanting to go cable actuated and I simply replied with my reason for not. I also forgot to mention that I don't know where in the hell you would put this thing in a stock cab. Nevertheless 2 of them

Yeah well you take up a lot less room in your cab than my big ass does. I'm intrigued to see how you are going to lay them out though. The plan to do this before you know what?

possibly tires depends on whathisface, detroit or equivalent, single 4.7, maybe gears, x over steering, maybe tacoma front and rear brakes,

I'm sure someone in the Washington Bale will be willing to host that party. I would start reaching out to them now though. I might have a garage by August if everything goes accordingly. It won't be outfitted very well by then though.

I give you mad props steve, traveling all this way to build a rig and then beat on it. That's awesome!

Andrew I love the idea of a dd/rig, that's basically what I'm trying to accomplish with the brown truck. A capable dd but it won't get thrashed like the rig does.

Meanwhile I'm thinking about how much more sleep you could have had going the Detroit rear and Aussie front route!  My cable actuator is a hybrid design with the throttle!  The Toyota e-lockers seems to be pretty solid so hopefully you find them to be very reliable when you need them most.

It all spiraled out of control after I found an Elocker for a great price on Craigslist. Next thing I knew I was spending $2k and going Elocker front and rear with new gears being cryoed. I can be like that though.... :willynilly:

Looking sweet dude. Like your custom axle armor too. Is it true with e lockers that the tires need to rotate one revolution in order for the locker to engage??

There is a 50/50 chance that they will lock immediately or not, if the splines are aligned it will slide straight in, if not then it will just need to differentiate enough so that they are.

Ever have a hard time taking the tcase out of low range?  Sometimes you have to back up and release the drive line tension and it'll shift out easy peezy.  Elockers, same way.  Ya gotta serpentine!!!!  Lol
