Mounting points for shocks...
« on: Nov 03, 2014, 05:16:10 AM »
For what ever reason the guy before me couldn't order proper length shocks to mount in stock location and welded bolts to frame to fix his stupidity... It's a 93 pickup single cab reg bed. Saw about a year ago someone asked about relocating the shocks and the reply by a member was awesome. I guess I'm what I'm looking for is ideas for the best of both worlds street/flex. At this point street is more of the concern than flex since it's going to be a partial dd. I will post pics later on of what I am dealing with now.
If possible could you guys and possibly girls post some pics of what different location your running?

I did come across this image while searching google.

It does seem that most relocation points are triangulated from outer points of rear axle to center above it. Don't think that's the way I want to go though.

How are they mounted on the axle right now? I wouldn't mess with upper mounts untill you remove the blocks, body lift and any springs, if you still plan on doing that stuff. After that you'll know what kind of travel your working with and where to mount the shocks. Sky, low range, Davez all sell a rear upper shock mount.

Bottoms are mounted to leaf spring mount, looks like stock lower mounting location. Tops are in two different spots creating two separate compression angles, I'd say at least 10 degree difference.

I ran mine on a pretty steep angle for a long time. This can help you cheat on having shocks that are not long enough for max droop if you need it, but you will have more body roll. ( my  :twocents:) I made a new top mount as high as I could with my BL and mount my shocks near the centerline on the front side of the axle tube. The shocks are nearly straight up and down now. This works better for me on road in the corners and I didn't lose any articulation.
