how do I determine differential
« on: Sep 29, 2014, 09:40:56 PM »
I am completely rebuilding my 1984 Toyota pickup SR5 . I am stripping both axles now so I can sandblast and paint. I will need to replace the seals and differential gasket but not sure what differential I have on the axles, I am sure I need to know this so I can order the correct gasket. I will not be replaceing ANY hard parts as there are only 84K miles on this truck.

You don't need to know what differential ratio you have to order the right parts. All solid front axle mini trucks have the standard 4 cylinder 8" diff. Check out the link in my signature for the write-up on the front axle service.

Here is a picture that may help you figure out if you have a 4 cylinder or V6/Turbo housing.
