he's talking about a cummins bt4, if your looking at om617 swap, I have kit from 4x4labs to convert, possibly for sale

Not interested in the cummins 4bt, too heavy. And I might be interested in the swap parts just trying to get opinions on  both those motors.

4bt is definitely way to heavy. I would recommend the VW engine. Seems like the OM617 would be far to long.

I have a bias against VW engines just because they involve a gaggle of wires and a timing belt which can swallow rocks like a crack dealer and cause seizures.
OM617 engines were built for Somali warlords and are overbuilt. Actually overbuilt is an understatement. No electronics, enclosed timing case, oil cooled pistons, Ti nitride crank, rods made from some clandestine German steel recipe, WET BORE read SLEEVED cylinders (Cummins B series are parent bore aka Bored into the block) Famously bulletproof Mercedes cam train (wide cam lobes, was copied by Datsun)
 >>Check the timing chain stretch cuz it will dog you >>Run it cuz Mohammed Farrah Aidid wouldn't run a VW >>Make sure you run Diesel oil

I've got the most liftedest truck in town, that little jap truck done stand no chance gainst my Chevy. My Chevy gots a V8 more lift an bigger tires, and an exhaust system, whats yer tuna can got, a V4, and them tires look like they is offa Saturn Corulla. The dealer instulled my lift, so ya no its done right, you just try to foller me throo them rocks an see what a reel truck can do.

Although I do agree with the above post. I would go with a VW because I think Mercs are to heavy and bulky for a toyota. If you have ever seen one out you realize how long they really are.

VW was easy to mount and fit!
im in the middle of my swap and I have to make a custom cross member for engine clearance but other then that it's been great!

The wiring is really not that hard it just needs to be slimmed down. I will be posting a full walkthrough video of how to make the stand alone harness and wire Toyota side. Within the week. Fallow my YouTube to stay updated.

Is there a fore-aft link to keep the engine from going fore and aft?

Yup tranny mount
3 point location brace keeps it centered and from twisting any direction.

Y'all are forgetting the Mercedes om60x line (601,602,603,604,605,606). A turbo om602 makes the same power as an om617, is lighter, has a crossflow head (more power potential), don't require valve adjustments every 8k miles, and are only 2.5 litres instead of the 3 litres a 617 is (so better fuel economy).
'86 4X4 turbo turd pickup (soon to be non-turbo)
'17 Tacoma SR 4X4 (access cab, 4cyl, 5 speed)

So what happens in California if you used a 'cheating' VW diesel?
